[NEWS] My top 5 new dramas (February Edition)

My top new dramas (February Edition)

February is here folks! The month some of us have been waiting for ~ and the reason for that starts with Song and ends with Joong Ki. Hell yeah ~ Descendant of the Sun is finally going to air! *o* But that's not the only goodie goodies this month has to offer. Without further ado, let's check out Omodramaland's top 5 upcoming dramas of February ~

5.                                          Nie XiaoQian (2016, Taiwan)

Title: 聶小倩
Genre: Historical
Episodes: 20
Broadcasting period: Feb 21th - July 3th

Sadly we don't know a single thing about the plot, besides the fact that it's a historical (time traveling-ish drama?) and that famous actors Annie Chen (Love Around, Boysitter) and Lee Christopher (Mr. Right Wanted) will be playing the main leads. Personally, for me, I think just the fact that Annie Chen will be in it is enough of a reason to give this one a try. I don't usually watch a drama JUST for an actor/actress when I don't know anything about the plot, but since Annie Chen's other dramas have been amazeballs and she doesn't do dramas that often, I don't think I can skip this one xD. Not to mention that Taiwan doesn't usually do historical dramas.
If you're wondering why it's airing for so long, taiwanese dramas tend to only air once a week (it's torture for a person like me, who is used korean dramas airing twice a week, or chinese dramas airing five times a week...but I think I'll survive....somehow o_o).

4.                                   Heaven's Promise (2016, South Korea)

Title: 천상의 약속/The Promise
Genre: melodrama, romance
Episodes: 100
Broadcasting period: Feb 1th - June 17th

Starring Seo Jun Yeong (Tears of Heaven), Lee Yu Ri (Yellow Boots, Come! Jang Bo Ri), Song Jong Ho (Reply 1997) and Park Ha Na (Apgujeong Midnight Sun), Heaven's Promise is about the arrogant and tough woman Do Hee, who takes on the identity of her dead twin sister Da Yeon in order to get revenge on Tae Joon, a man from a poor background, but who dumped Da Yeon for Jang Se Jin, the granddaughter of a Chaebol. In order to get her revenge, Do Hee marries Se Jin's uncle Park Hwi Kyung.

Another Lee Yu Ri-melodrama! Yaay! Count me in on this one. I'm such a sucker for revenge melodramas anyways, and this one sounds like it'll have its own twist to it. It may not be enough to keep one hooked for 100 episodes, but I think it could be a nice and slow watch.

3.                          Come Back, Ajusshi (2016, South Korea)

Title: 돌아와요 아저씨/Come back, Mister
Genre: drama, romance, comedy, supernatural
Episodes: 16
Broadcasting period: Feb 24th - Apr 14th

Starring Rain a.k.a Bi (Fugitive Plan B, My Lovely Girl), Lee Min Jung (Big, Cunning Single Lady) and Oh Yeon Seo (Shine or go crazy, Come! Jang Bo Ri) the drama is about a man named Kim Yeong Soo who worked to death, but through unexpected turn of events, comes back to the living world in the attractive body of Lee Hae Joon for a limited amount of time. Meanwhile, Hong Nan is a beautiful woman, but her spirit is possessed by a tough guy named Han Ki Tak. At the same time, Shin Da Hye is a beautiful housewife, but her husband suddenly dies. She falls into a love triangle with Lee Hae Joon and a promising store employee Jung Ji Hoon.

Just how many body-swaps and soul-transfers isn't that? Sounds a bit confusing, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that the scriptwriter won't make the story too messy. That aside, it sounds like a very promising romance comedy, kind of similar to Secret Garden and Big. On a sidenote, can we just talk about the official poster? I hope it's not the official poster because it looks plain fugly! I mean, come on! Even fan made posters look better than this -.-* ugh. Okay rant over. The supernatural aspect in this drama has definitely taught my interest, so this will be a must-watch for me.

2.                                        Chronicles of Life (2016, China)

Title: 寂寞空庭春欲晚
Genre: drama, historical, romance
Episodes: 45
Broadcasting period: Feb 1th - ?

Starring Zheng Shuang (The Cage of Love), Hawick Lau (The Cage of Love, Lady & Liar) and Zhang Vin (Long Time No See) the drama is about a young maiden named Wei Lin Lang who catches the attention of Na Lan Rang Ruo with her beautiful melody. He recognizes the performer to be his cousin. Seeing his loyal subject's affection, emperor Kang Xi orders Lin Lang to be found and betrothed to Na Lan Rong Ruo. But prince Fu Quan, who was tasked to do it, notices the emperor also seems to have taken interest in her, decides to pick another bride for Rong Ruo and instead let's  Lin Lang enter the palace to serve the Emperor.

I don't know it if it's because it was quite late when I wrote this post, but I had to re-read the synopisis a few times to connect all the characters together. So if I got it right, Rang Ruo falls for his cousin, the emperor likes her too but decides to let Rang Ruo have her, however this prince (who is by the way, not in the cast-list on MDL) decides that the King should indeed have the girl (add her to his harem since obviously an Emperor can't have enough concubines pff) and picks another girl for poor Rang Ruo. This brings up quite a lot of questions. Who is this prince? Is there ever "enough" concubines in the Emperor's harem? Will there be more than two bitch-slapping evil concubines who fight for the Emperor's affection? How come Rang Ruo just then and there realized that his beautiful cousin is beautiful? I mean, if it's his cousin, I'm sure they've met quite a few times before then. Also, will he notice that the new bride is not his beautiful cousin (obviously he should be able to recognize that that is not his cousin right away. Which is what I'm guessing that the story will be about. He will find out that the love of his life is with the Emperor now. Bromance is ruined. Angst and forbidden love. Ah, just my cup of tea x'3, or something like that).  Sounds interesting. And I want to know the identity of this mysterious prince who loves to scheme and destroy bromance >_< He sounds like a fishy guy. Like, why does he even care? Is he the son of the Emperor? Isn't Hawick a bit too young to have a 20+ something year old son? o_o I doubt the prince is a 12 year old kid who schemes how to destroy the bromance relationship between daddy and his loyal servant. Guess I'll have to watch this drama to find out hm...<_<

1.                     Descendant of the Sun (2016, South Korea)

Title: 태양의 후예
Genre: melodrama, military, romance
Episodes: 16
Broadcasting period: Feb 24th - Apr 14th

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS IT'S FINALLY AIRING! -runs around in a circle while throwing confetti in the air- NO MORE POSTPONING. NO MORE WAITING. IT'S HERE! and it better stay here <_< or else I'll flip a table...and you don't want to see me flip a table. Just sayin.
Anyhow, Starring Song epic freaking Joong Ki (There's no such thing as Nice Guys <- I've always prefered that title over "Nice Guy", Werewolf Boy), Song Hye Kyo (That Winter The Wind Blows), Jin Goo (Advertising genius Lee Tae Baek) and Kim Ji Won (The Heirs, Gap Dong) Descendant of the -better be worth all the hype and wait- Sun is set in a world where the UN peacekeeping troops are dispatched to the war-torn country of Uruk, and is about Captain Yoo Shi Jin, team leader of the Special Warfare Command unit, who meets Kang Mo Yeon, a volunteer doctor who works with the Doctors Without Borders. As they work alongside each other in disaster- and disease-stricken zones, Shi Jin and Mo Yeon clash then fall in love.

It may not sound like the most epic thing ever based on the synopisis, but watch the trailer you guys, and I can guarantee that 9/10 of you will get your socks blown off. I just hope the full story is just as good as the trailer (because we all known, from your expeirence with Hollywood movies, that trailers are usually made up off the best scenes, and then when you see the full movie.....yeah. There is nothing more to it than just the things you've seen in the trailer (Not always, but most of the time). However this has an awesome cast, so I bet it'll be enough to keep a few fangirls and fanboys screaming their heads off, no matter how shitty the story may turn out to be. I do hope it's good though, because if you remember from last year, I promised I'd recap this drama xD. Also, to be honest, I'll he very disappointed if this turns out to be bad. I've been one of those people who's hyped this drama to the sun <- lolz, since it first got announced. So yeah....I hope it'll be at least promising.

That's it for my top 5 most anticipated drama of February :) Which drama do you anticipate the most? Is it on this list too? Leave a comment down below and let me know!

    1. Thanks xD I'm glad! And yes, finally a Taiwanese drama that I hope won't drag on too much <_< I have very bad experience with taiwanese dramas, they usually start off well and then drag on and on.
Song Joong Ki in a military romance is love <3
