Omodramaland's 'Can't Contain The Feels Corner' - The baddie We Love To Hate

Nam Gyu Man - the 'stay away from the psycho' guy in the flesh

Antagonists, pretty much every drama has them; after all, what would they be without the smexy baddies who scheme evil plans and try to ruin the lives of the protagonists? I don't know why, but ever since I can remember, I've always found antagonists interesting. I'd probably slap the living crap out of them if I ever saw them in real Life (or flee as far as my feet could take me, since that's the most realistic thing to do) but in fiction, I've Always had a soft spot of them. Their evil plans, their lies, their mischievous grins and smirks, I honestly don't know why but they appeal to me xD I guess no one like a perfect hero? Therefore, you have to mess them up a bit, to give them flaws, to make them, different from what you're used to, or something? I guess I should stop analyzing and just state it as a fact: I love villains! I love to see them try to figure out different ways how not to get caught because of their crimes, that struggle that ends up even more complicated get entangled in their own lies....yeah xD
Gotta love them villains and anti-heros! *_* and that's preciesly what I'm going to write (spamm) about in this post! My current obsession - Nam Gyu Man from the korean drama Remember. I have some mixed feelings about the drama itself, but Nam Goong Min is hands down slaying HARD as the main antagonist in this one!
I can't say I was a fan of Nam Goong Min, I've seen him in a couple of other dramas but he never really stood out to me, his roles were kind of forgettable. But there's Always that one role that pretty much sends you skyrocking the ladders of fame, right? Well, for me, this is that role! The actor is so into the role (and you can totally see that by his acting) that I even read somewhere that he had to go to a psychologist to talk it out because he felt the character creep in on his own personality. That's hardcore O_O , but it happens to the best of the actors (most recently to Byun Yo Han who plays Lee Bang Ji/Ddang Sae in Six Flying Dragons). The more talent you have as an actor, the easier you get absorbed into the role you're playing and it becomes entangled with your own personality. Kind of creepy, espeically if you don't play the nicest guy out there, and Nam Gyu Man is definitely not one of them...oh boy, where do i even start with him? For those of you who aren't currently watching Remember, you might Think like "well, Mina, an antagonist is an antagonist, so what's so special about this guy?" Let me tell you: He is your worst nightmare, and I'm not even exaggerating it. He's playing the type of character that you wish you'll never encounter in your Life, and if you do, pray to Everything in the World that he won't notice you and just walk by. He is unpredictable as fudge and that's what makes him even most dangerous.

Nam Gyu Man is the rich and arrogant chaebol heir (nothing new right?), well let's keep going then. He hates it when things don't go his way, and he has a very short temper (still nothing new right?)
Well, actually it's not just something the writers threw in as a side thing, it is actually touched upon as an issue. Nam Gyu Man has an anger disorder. Yes. Anger disorder, I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but basically when he snaps (and he does that a lot) he looses Control completely over himself and he can end up doing whatever he feels like it at that certain moment. Sure he does regret it and tries to play it off cool when it's over, but during the heat of the moment, he pretty much goes berserk, and that has happened on a countless of ocassions through-out the drama so far. The most memoriable one was when he recieved a phone call while driving and the person on the other side told him some news that pissed him off big time. So what did he do? He took out his anger on the woman driving in front of him. He drove in front of her and pulled over, grabbed a bat and pretty much destroyed her car until he felt better. "I was already in a bad mood and now you're here as well?" that was his reason people. He's freaking insane! He mark to see spoiler killed a Young woman end of spoiler because she scratched his face! O_O I'd say he is definitely the 'stay away from the psycho' - kind of guy. No doubt about it. But I hate to love him! xD I Think his character is very interesting and I can't wait to see Jin Woo (Yoo Seung Ho) figure out a way to put him in jail. Because we all know that bastard deserves to sit behind bars for all the things he's done. But until that happens, I Think I'll continue to "enjoy?" and love to hate him and his evil schemes ... gosh this love - hate relationship sure is weird! xD

Anyone else who is currently watching Remember and has the same love - hate relationship with Nam Gyu Man? Leave a comment down below and let me know! xP

  1. I can really understand how you feel about him. He does creep me out but I love him as an antagonist in Remember. Have you also watched The Girl Who Sees Scents? I didn't like the drama itself but Nam Gung Min played the villain and it was amazing! I might even like him more there but since Remember hasn't finished airing yet I don't know for sure...but I'm definitely curious about what other crimes he'll commit in Remember. xP

    1. I have, but I really didn't like it X_X so not even Nam Goong Min's acting stood out to me then. I Think I prefer his villain role in Remember so much more xD

  2. You have no idea how much I agree with you haha xD I love to analyse the reason behind a character's actions and their characterdevelopment from ep 1 to whatever. Gyu Man was definitely a very interesting and sad person. I both hated and felt sorry for him. His dad was definitely the devils reincarnation in this drama. Ugh I hate bad parenting so much DX He definitely is responsible for his son's mental issues, I mean sure Gyu Man had anger maangement disorder, but if his dad didn't push him mentally and abuse him he probably wouldn't have developed the disorder to that extent. I Think that's what the last scene wanted to tell us as well. In the end he was just pitiful. He wanted his dads approval and love, but yeah...his dad was an ass DX
